NATIONAL leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo over their asset declaration, saying that they were deceiving Nigerians. Noting that President Buhari last December declared that he had only N1 million in his account, the PDP wondered how the money suddenly rose to N30 million by May 29 after an expensive campaign. And this is apart from assets in his wife’s name.

If there is one thing that drives me nuts it is when people put on an air of bogus moral superiority. I mean the kind of finger-wagging holier-than-thou sermonising that has in the last few days been directed at Britain, and our handling of the great European immigration crisis. It would seem that the UK has been mean, bad, wrong and, above all, selfish. Sir Bob Geldof has called us a “f–––––– disgrace”.

German residents greeted migrants and refugees arriving with applause but tensions increase on the island of Lesbos
For those who had risked their lives to flee a cruel civil war by rickety boat or in a smugglers’ truck, it would have been a remarkable sight.
Germans gathered by the hundred at train stations on Sunday to welcome refugees arriving in their cities as if they were long-lost friends or returning war heroes.
An estimated 10,000 refugees were expected to arrive in Germany by train from Hungary and Austria on Sunday, and they were greeted with spontaneous rounds of applause and songs, as well as sweets, pastries and toys, on station platforms across the country.
At Munich station, volunteers amassed a large stockpile of food. Helpers at the main train station in Frankfurt formed human chains to pass bags of food, clothing and toiletries to the exhausted arrivals, whom they welcomed with banners and balloons.

She suffered from severe depression, brought on by years of bullying.
Her misery was so deep that she tried to kill herself three times before her final attempt.
Olivia’s message to the bullies
It left her clinically brain dead, and her heartbroken parents had to make the decision to switch off her life support.
After the 19-year-old’s death in 2012, her dad discovered a suicide diary Olivia had made, and a five-minute video documenting her depression – and leaving a poignant message to bullies.
In the video, she holds up cards describing her torment.

The cards said: ‘I’m great at hiding all my problems and wear the best fake smile 24/7 so no one knows how much I’m suffering inside.
‘None of my friends know anything about me – they fall for my fake laughs and smiles – they believe I’m fine.’
Olivia, from Melbourne, Australia, said she started seeing a ‘ghost-like figure’ who she named Bree as her depression became more severe.
In 2009 she dropped out of school, but even after returning was unable to cope.
Olivia was 19 when she died
‘I have attempted suicide more times than I can count,’ she wrote.
Another card said therapy had not worked, and she concluded: ‘I can’t hide anymore behind a fake smile, I can’t pretend I’m okay. I’m going to go away and no one will notice.’
She had a message for others who have attempted to take their own lives.

Olivia wrote: ‘Just because I’ve failed to kill myself doesn’t make me weak, it doesn’t make me pathetic or an attention seeker and if you’ve failed too it doesn’t make you any of these things either.
‘You are strong, you are brave and you will get through this I promise.’
Olivia’s parents appeal for bullying to stop:
Describing her psychosis as a ‘living, breathing nightmare’ she urged others: ‘Please talk to your friends when they show signs of mental illness, because you can save their life. That’s all I ask of anyone because no one saved me.’ It was only when she was asked by a psychologist what had caused her misery that it hit her.
She wrote: ‘Then it hit me – BULLYING! All my pain is caused by heaps of tiny comments built up over the years.’

And she continued: ‘If you ever think of bullying someone… DON’T! because you could ruin their life. Your words hurt and could make someone take their life.’ Now her parents, who set up the Angels4Olivia website, are hoping their daughter’s tragedy can give hope to others.

Mum Kellie said: ‘I actually didn’t really know about the bullying until I actually saw her video that said about bullying that I realised that is what had caused it all.’
