How successful people survive on four hours sleep a night

Pulling all-nighters to get your uni work in on time? Working double shifts to make ends meet? Or just been burning the candle at both ends?

From Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill to Bill Clinton many of history’s most successful people claimed they got by on as little as four hours a night.

Now a number of successful internet CEOs have shared their tips for getting by on minimal shut-eye.

Cut back on TV, tablets and smartphones before bed

Studies have found the blue-ish light given out by electronic screens confuses our brains and harms out sleep cycles.



Basically the brain thinks it is still daytime stopping us from falling in to the kind of deep, restorative sleep we need.

The advice is to switch everything off two hours before bed.

Work out what time you need to sleep



Many people who report sleeping for just a few hours a night do so at the same time.

Dr. Nitun Verma, MD, a Stanford University trained specialist in sleep medicine recommends working out when you ‘need’ to sleep and trying to stick to a routine so you wake up at around the same time each day.

There is debate around whether sleeping in on your day off can make up for lack of sleep on other days.

Take naps

Jason Lucash, who runs OrigAudio, says: ‘Get your catnaps in. A catnap, or a quick 20 to 30 minute nap, can be an entrepreneur’s best friend.

‘I wouldn’t recommend revolving your sleep schedule around this sort of Polyphasic sleep pattern but occasional 15-minute power naps can give you a boost in energy and help you to power through another few hours.’

If you are low on energy avoid sugar

Instead switch tasks to something you like doing.

CEO, Alexandra Damsker, says if you are at work take a break, get some fresh air, or call a friend or family member so it feels like you are breaking up your day.
