Father and son facing jail for attempted murder of man at party

Murder bid: Father and son facing jail.

A father and his son are facing lengthy prison sentences after they were convicted of attempted murder.

Stephen Charlick, 57, and James, 30, attacked 20-year-old Sean McAreavey at a house in Barrhead, Renfrewshire, earlier this year.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard how the pair struck Mr McAreavey on the head and body during a frenzied attack.

The court heard how the assault took place during a party at Charlick Senior's house in the town's Kerr Street on February 22.

The two men were convicted on Friday following a week long trial at the court.

They had pleaded not guilty to the charge. Judge Lady Scott deferred sentence on the two men to obtain reports about their character.

They will be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on January 15, 2016.
