The Hoops striker launched a social media rant after the Norwegian's call to omit him from the match-day squad for last weekend's match against Inverness CT.
"Buzzing to be brought all the way up to Inverness with the team to sit in the stands today," Stokes wrote on his Twitter account. "Lovely weather for it too.
"Who gives a f* about wages when your [sic] not playing games! It's all about playing and contributing not picking up a wage."
Stokes has now been told to stay away from the club for two weeks, although Deila revealed that more than just the Twitter rant contributed to his suspension.
"I think everybody understands that this is not about that single coincidence, there have been some issues in the past and now we felt we had to put down a marker," he said.

" I think thats going to be good for us in the end, as for Anthony as well. After the 14 days he can come back and we will keep him working.
"I won't go into the other issues, that's between me and him and the club of course. This is something we take internal."
The Republic of Ireland international has been linked with a move away from Celtic Park, but Deila insists that he has a future at Celtic - despite speculation.
"He has a future here," he said. "Of course, there are things that need to improve and thats with all the players as well.
"If he makes the improvement that we want, everything is possible.
"He has a contract with Celtic, he has talent and we want to get the best out of that talent."
