Veridiana Erbskorn, 47, told police she scoured her son's face because she was unhappy with his rock and roll-influenced looks, local media reported.
The mother used the steel and wool cleaning pad on her son's eyes
Police said Erbskorn told them her son was going through a "rock and roll phase", and had begun using eye liner, wearing a leather jacket and attempting to dye his hair.
The fed-up mum used a steel and wool cleaning pad to remove the makeup from her son's eyes and face, a Coweta County Sheriff's Office spokesman told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
A sibling reportedly notified police of the incident and officers responded to the home southwest of Atlanta.
The boy was taken to hospital for treatment.
Doctors said his eyes had been scratched, but it was too early to know whether his vision would be permanently damaged, the Journal-Constitution reported.
