Woman subjected to attempted rape on grounds of Glasgow hospital

Attack: Woman sexually assaulted at Stobhill Hospital in Glasgow.

A woman has been subjected to an attempted rape during a sex attack on the grounds of a hospital.

A 33-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a man at Stobhill Hospital in the north of Glasgow on Wednesday night.

She was attacked at around 8pm in the incident at the hospital in the city's Springburn. The victim was not a patient and police would not confirm if any staff members were involved.

The woman was walking with a man within the grounds of the hospital where he sexually assaulted her. Police have launched a hunt for the attacker and are following a positive line of inquiry.

The man responsible is described as white, in his late 30s and wearing a black waterproof jacket and dark-coloured jeans.

Detective inspector Frank Clarke, of the Divisional Rape Investigation Unit, said: "Police are following a positive line of enquiry in relation to this incident, but we are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

"The grounds of the hospital would have been busy on Wednesday evening with visitors and staff entering and leaving.

"I would ask anyone who witnessed this incident, or who has information that may assist the police investigation to contact us as a matter of urgency.

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101."
