Power Plant
Youths from Ndokwa ethnic nationality have shut down the Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Ndokwa, Delta State.
Daily Sun investigation revealed that the youths took the action to protest the refusal of the Federal Government and the AGIP Oil Company to step down the power plant.
Agitation by the community for the power plant to step down in Ndokwa has been on since 2005.
Acting under the aegis of Ndokwa Youth Alive Progressive Forum, the people contended that they have suffered for too long insisting that the plant will remain closed until government and AGIP respond to their plight.
In a statement signed by its National President and Secretary, Ozegbe Adoh and Odanike Azuka, they contended that until the plant is stepped down, the whole country would be affected by their action.
“This is just a warning that if the plant is not stepped down in Ndokwa, the whole country will be affected.
“We have waited for over 10 years for the Federal Government and AGIP to step down the power plant but all to no avail, hence the Ndokwa Youths Vanguard decided to shut down the plant which supply power to nine states of the Federation,” the youths stated.
They recalled in 2005 when former president Olusegun Obasanjo directed AGIP to step down the power plant, unfortunately the order was obeyed.
