Cops investigate grim discovery in family home
A MURDER probe is underway after the bodies of seven babies were found in a house in Germany.
The corpses of the infants were discovered by emergency medics called to the house in the Bavarian town of Wallenfels.
They did not give any details of the circumstances of their deaths or how many bodies were found.
Local media said at least two babies were dead but the respected Sueddeutsche newspaper in Munich said prosecutors on Friday leaked that it is seven dead children that are being dealt with.
Autopsies were due to be carried out on the remains on Friday.
A brief police statement on the Wallenfels find said: “Around 4.00pm on Thursday the police were called to a house in Wallenfels where mortal remains were found. The initial investigation showed that it is the human remains of infants.”
Local media reported that the house was occupied by a couple that had several children from previous marriages.
“Actually they are an ordinary family”, said Wallenfel Mayor Jens Korn. The man of the house was said to be “very active” in clubs in the small town of 3,000 people and both he and the woman regarded as “nice people.”
“The mother always took good care of her children,” he added.
“Now there is great dismay in Wallenfels, a mourning for the children who were not allowed to live.”
The mayor paid a visit to the house after police were photographed coming out with a coffin.
It remains unclear how or when the babies died.
Last May in Germany a woman was sentenced to nearly four years jail for killing two of her children and hiding their bodies in a deep freeze.
