Nigeria: Falae flown abroad for medical treatment

Chief Olu Falae

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae has reportedly left the country on a medical trip to the United Kingdom following complications in his health.

Falae was said to have developed complications following the horrible situation he was subjected to when he was abducted recently.

A source close to the elder statesman hinted that the 77 years old politician left the country yesterday and may not be back until next month.

Falae, who is the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) was kidnapped by suspected Fulani herdsmen recently while on his farm in Ilado in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo state, and was later released after four days in their custody.

It was learnt that the health of the former Finance Minister deteriorated after he was released by his kidnappers.

Although Falae was said to have been treated by medical experts in the country, it was gathered that his resolve to travel out for medical treatment followed his recent health challenges.

It would be recalled that Falae while narrating his ordeal stated that he was made to pass through series of maltreatments including long trek.

The Personal Assistant to Falae, Captain Moshood Raji (Rtd) who confirmed the elder stateman’s journey to the United Kingdom, said he traveled out of the country on vacation and for proper medical care.

He explained that the septuagenarian politician has not been able to have enough rest after the abduction saga, hence the foreign medical trip.

He said Falae will use the opportunity of the vacation to do some other things which include medical treatment.

He said, “Baba has traveled to the United Kingdom on vacation and would also have his medical check up there, but he is expected to be back by the end of this month.”
