Sport: Kai Rooney meets Messi, Suarez and Neymar in trip to Barcelona

Pictures show Wayne Rooney's son enjoying the holiday of his life - proudly flaunting a Barcelona shirt

New pictures from Barcelona have set tongues wagging over a potential summer move for Rooney - Kai Rooney that is...

Wayne Rooney's son has been pictured with the best and brightest of Barcelona's Champions League winning side in a recent trip to the Nou Camp.

Coleen Rooney thanked former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique, who organised the trip, adding: "Kai had the best time ever and is a very lucky boy!"

Kai Rooney's weekend away was topped off with a prime seat to witness Barcelona's 1-0 victory over Malaga in the Nou Camp - not your average school trip away...

Football: Anthony Martial is facing a baptism of fire at Manchester United

Forward follows Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney as the latest talented teenager to arrive at Old Trafford but they had a safety net - he does not

It is one those statistics which fades with memories of goals in Champions League finals and countless match-winning interventions, but Cristiano Ronaldo was only able to muster 15 goals in his first two seasons as a teenager at Manchester United.

Wayne Rooney, who marked his United debut as an 18-year-old with a Champions League hat-trick against Fenerbahce following his £27million arrival from Everton in 2004, performed somewhat better than Ronaldo, delivering 36 goals in his first two campaigns at Old Trafford.

But both encountered peaks and troughs during their early days at United, in terms of injury and development, and the same fate is likely to await Anthony Martial who, 11 years to the day since Rooney became the world’s most expensive teenager by signing for the club, now stands to claim that same distinction at United.

Anthony Martial will become the world's most expensive teenager

By moving to Old Trafford from Monaco for an initial £36million, the French youngster will arrive in Manchester bracing himself to encounter the same teenage teething troubles as his glorious predecessors, but without the safety net which helped accelerate Rooney and Ronaldo’s development.

Luke Shaw, the player who Martial will eclipse as football’s most expensive teenager, will attest to the difficulties that come with shouldering such a burden in such a pressurised environment as Manchester United.

With just 64 career appearances to his name, Martial is undoubtedly a rookie - unknown to an English audience one minute and a household name the next.

Anthony Martial - a fine prospect facing a lot of pressure

Ronaldo arrived in similar obscurity in August 2003 as a callow 17-year-old, with a £12.2million price-tag in a summer when David Beckham left for Real Madrid and attempts to land a superstar in Ronaldinho failed spectacularly.

His was an underwhelming signing, with many questioning United’s ambition and transfer strategy, and the same mood music is providing a backdrop to Martial’s arrival.

But while Ronaldo struggled for consistency during his early seasons at United, his progress was aided by the support network of team-mates such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand and Roy Keane

“Ronaldo wasn’t the finished article when he came here,” Ferdinand said. “He practiced all the time, sometimes taking a bag of balls out on his own after training.

“But we also made him realise that it was about contributing to the team with goals and assists. Still, by the time he left, he was a machine.”

Rooney, who was much further down the road to development than Ronaldo, still benefited from the presence of those senior statesmen alongside him.

Ronaldo was berated and praised in equal measure by team-mates, who urged the Portuguese winger to eradicate the diving, tricks and histrionics from his game, while Rooney was spared the pressure of having to win games on his own by the likes of Van Nistelrooy, Giggs and Scholes.

But who will play the senior roles when Martial requires guidance on or off the pitch and, with Rooney struggling for form, who will shield the French forward from the expectation that he delivers match-winning contributions from the off?

The team and players around them ensured Ronaldo and Rooney had time to develop into the crucial figures that they became - Ronaldo took three years to become the player that eventually prompted Real to come calling in 2009.

Cristiano Ronaldo was not an instant hit at United

Martial will not get that time and Louis van Gaal is also unable to play the long-game which Sir Alex Ferguson played with Ronaldo and Rooney.

He needs an instant return from Martial, just as he does from Memphis Depay, the 21-year-old Dutch winger whose raw talent requires time and patience for him to develop into another Ronaldo or Arjen Robben,

So it will require immense mental strength, as well as football ability, for Martial to make the impact that his new status as the world’s most expensive teenager will demand.

Shaw, compromised by injuries and fitness problems, endured a disastrous first season at United, with the England left-back only now beginning to show his best form.

Luke Shaw can attest to how hard it is for youngsters at United

Having been signed from Southampton, Shaw at least had a Premier League background to draw upon, but Martial will genuinely be heading into the unknown at Old Trafford.

And the space and time which he will need to grow may not be there. He will have to emulate Rooney and Ronaldo by doing it the hard way.

UK: Tory councillor apologises after posting a Facebook photo of 14 naked women in a boat captioned 'If Carlsberg did illegal immigrants'

Mike Kusneraitis shared several images offensive images on social media

He sits on Runneymede Borough Council and has been blasted for actions

Photos included one of nude women on boat with a slur about 'immigrants'

Also shared a sexually explicit cartoon, but has asked to be judged on his actions in the community, not by 'misjudged postings'

Mike Kusneraitis, a Conservative councillor on the Tory-run Runneymede Borough Council in Surrey, said he should be judged on his actions in the community, not by 'misjudged postings on social media'

A Tory councillor is being investigated by council chiefs after sharing photo of a boat full of 14 naked women with a caption reading 'If Carlsberg did illegal immigrants'.

Mike Kusneraitis, a Conservative councillor on the Tory-run Runneymede Borough Council in Surrey, said he should be judged on his actions in the community, not by 'misjudged postings on social media'.

The councillor admitted making a number of 'offensive' postings on a Facebook page, which have now been removed.

Among the postings included a dog with a towel on his head and a sexually explicit cartoon, both posted on the Facebook page of the Peoples Front of Egham, which is currently unavailable.

He also posted an image on July 24 showing a boat full of 14 naked women, with a caption reading 'If Carlsberg did illegal immigrants'.

Writing on his own Facebook page at the weekend, Cllr Kusneraitis, of Egham, Surrey, apologised if he offended anyone.

He wrote: 'I would like to state that it was never my intention to offend or upset anyone and if I have done then I want take this opportunity to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly.

'Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not and have never been a racist.

'Judge me by my actions in the community not by a misjudged post on social media.'

Leaders of the Tory party in the area confirmed today that it is looking into the postings by Cllr Kusneraitis, which were made in July and August this year.

Peter Taylor, the chairman of the Runnymede and Weybridge Conservative Association, said he was investigating.

He said: 'At the moment I have not got a comment to make because I've only just seen the images. I need to consult with people.'

Writing on his own Facebook page at the weekend, Cllr Kusneraitis, of Egham, Surrey, apologised if he offended anyone

Local Ian Cruickshank, 43, said: 'Posting a photo of 14 naked women on a boat while making light of the plight of illegal immigration is something he should have realised was wrong.'

Mushtaq Deshmukh, the chair of the Islamic Welfare Association of West Surrey, said he had invited Cllr Kusneraitis to a 'Meet Your Muslim Neighbour' meeting on September 19.

He said: 'Whether it is true or not, I would like to extend an invitation to the councillor to one of our events, namely 'Meet Your Muslim Neighbour'.

'He can meet Muslims from the local community and maybe learn more about us and then make an educated opinion about Muslims, rather than be like those who have opinions about Muslims without having ever met a Muslim and asked him or her what do they actually believe in.'

8 little-known facts about Princess Diana

Diana, the ‘people’s princess’ (Photo by Tim Graham/Getty Images)

Princess Diana died in a car crash 18 years ago.

The ‘people’s princess’, as former prime minister Tony Blair famously referred to her after her death in 1997, has certainly been long remembered as people paid tribute to her on social media today.

Many facts about Diana’s life are well known to the public – but here are some that might still surprise you.
She had an impressive heritage

And we’re not just talking about the circles of aristocracy she was born into, being the daughter of the 8th Earl of Spencer.

She had pretty impressive relations from Audrey Hepburn, Winston Churchill and a handful of US presidents through to Duchess of Devonshire Georgiana Cavendish, the focal character of the 2008 film The Duchess starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes.

She’s also related to Mary Queen of Scots, meaning to be royal must have obviously been in her blood.
Her grandmother worked for the royal family

The royal connections were strong with this one. Five years before Diana was born, in 1956, her maternal grandmother Baroness Fermoy became one the Queen Mother’s ladies-in-waiting.

She was also an extremely close friend of the Queen and a concert pianist, with the King’s Lynn Festival making Fermoy widely known in Norfolk.
She started her career in teaching and childcare

Before she was a princess, Diana embarked on a very different career path.

Starting work at age 19, her first few jobs were that of a babysitter, an executive and of a teacher’s assistant at Young England Nursery School.

Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah, also dated Prince Charles

Obviously before Diana.

Lady Sarah is now married to Neil McCorquodale, but she is still very close to the Royal Family in the years after her sister’s death.

In 2013, she was spotted with Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George on the 16th anniversary of Diana’s death near Grantham.

She invited Cindy Crawford round as Prince William had a crush on her

When William was 13 years old, he let slip to his mother that he had a teenage crush on Cindy Crawford. So what else was Diana going to do but invite the supermodel round for dinner?

Crawford said she was terrified about meeting him.

‘It was a little awkward,’ Crawford later said in 2006. ‘He was a boy, so I didn’t want to look too trampy. But I didn’t want to look dowdy either. I somehow had to look supermodel for a kid.’

She changed the way the world thought about AIDS

It is a well-known fact that philanthropy was a huge part of the Princess of Wales’ life.

She supported over 100 charities and even won a Nobel Peace Prize a few months before her death.

One of those causes was awareness about HIV and AIDS, and combating stigma around the disease.

Here she is appealing for compassion for sufferers in 1993.

She was a magazine cover favourite

She wasn’t just the people’s princess, but the media’s too. The press were a part of her life and, tragically also, a huge part of the story of her death.

During her lifetime, she was featured on the cover of People magazine more than 50 times, Time magazine featured her eight times and Newsweek featured her on the cover seven times, according to the Asia-Pacific Economics Blog.

She struggled with depression and bulimia

One of Diana’s greatest struggles was personal – namely bulimia. Later she would reveal they started around the time her engagement with Charles began.

‘Bulimia started the week after we got engaged,’ she said in tapes obtained by NBC.

‘My husband put his hand on my waistline and said: “Oh, a bit chubby here, aren’t we?” That triggered off something in me.’

Series: Breaking The Jinx I - By Badero Olusola

By Badero Olusola

Life they say, is "the condition that distinguishes animals and plants from inorganic matter, including the capacity for growth, reproduction, functional activity, and continual change preceding death." - the origins of life. Life begins from our first breath and ends at our last. While human nature is described as the primary determinant of what a man would become. Simply defined as "the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioural traits of humankind, regarded as shared by all humans." We all have the same instinct of survival whenever our comfort zones are threatened.

On this note I want share my personal opinion and advice with the people of my constituency -- the youth.

I wrote a similar post on how the youth can break the jinx of enslavement covertly embedded in the policy of successive governments in Nigeria and indirectly, sustained the generational socioeconomic incapacitation prevalent among the millions of Nigerian youth still living in the country.

I wrote about cooperative investment and middleman ideals in gaining economic independence.

In this article, I will enunciate further on why it is better to be an employee of labour than "apply-er" of labour, -- and how.

I had a discussion on this same topic with a friend in Nigeria asking me to raise some money for a business back home. He had a very brilliant idea in agricultural business that can yield good return, with a moderate investment. But my friend had no capacity to put his idea into practice cuz of the needed start up capital.

In my response; I asked if there were no alternative ways of raising the money? The banks -- especially the micro finance banks? He only belabored me with sad tales of what you will have to go through in securing the loans, and other sundries! Then I asked if he knew anything about "crowd funding"? I knew he won't have an idea, just like many of you reading this.

"Crowd funding", is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet. So many people have raised unbelievable amounts of money to support good causes, all around the world - via the Internet. Crowd funding can be used to raise campaign money for a popular candidate who has no financial strength to back his campaign.

But you don't need an internet based "crowd funding" group before you can start something that will change your life forever. You can live your dreamed life by working with another group of people with the same goal like yours, all by pulling your small resources together to start a business.

In the next two series, I'll explain more on;

***How can you set up a successful "Crowd Funding" group, backed by a solid legal agreement, signed by all the stakeholders, for your next business adventure.

***Three business ideas that can be funded through "Crowd Funding".

The two series above will be next.

You don't need to be in government before you can become somebody. The spirit to "Breaking The Jinx" is right there waiting inside of you, day and night. Just take a minute to talk to it.

To be continued...

Stay tuned!

A drone caught a man casually sunbathing on a 200ft wind turbine

Just when you thought drones had caught everything on video, this comes up.

Footage from one flown by Kevin Miller in New England, United States, showed a man sunbathing.

That doesn’t seem like a big deal until you realise he was lying on a 200ft wind turbine at the time.

A man was sunbathing on wind turbine (Picture: YouTube/CNN)

The sun bather in Rhode Island proved he was a cool customer by simply waving to the drone.

‘Upon landing he saw me bring the drone down and was leaning over the edge. I looked up and wave to him and he waved back,’ Miller told the Daily Mirror.

We’re not quite sure how he got up there but there’s a hatch so he probably climbed up through there.

Nigerian economy worse in 90 days of APC – PDP

Olisa Metuh

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described as alarming, the “damage” so far done on the nation’s economy by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, since it took office at the center, three months ago.

The party said the “shambolic” state of the nation’s economy within the period is a direct fallout of uncertainty created by the inability of the Buhari-led government to chart a clear-cut economic policy, worsened by abuse of regulations, and flagrant violation of constitutional provisions.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Saturday said instead of gains, official reports show that the last three months under the APC-led government have brought a sudden decline in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), with attendant losses and hardship to the citizens, while the government embarks on propaganda of imaginary achievements, in addition to attempts to foist harsh economic regime to cover its ineptitude.

“If not for crass incompetence or a possible ulterior motive to subjugate Nigerians for selfish reasons, what else explains the adamant stance of this administration in running a government without the statutory components of a full cabinet and precise fiscal policy direction, even when the negative consequences of this strange totalitarian approach are taking serious toll on the economy and the polity in general?
“Whereas the APC led government is busy with its propaganda of imaginary achievements, official reports from the National Bureau of Statistics show that that the economy is being grounded with Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) plunging with about 2.35%, while job creation has dropped by 69 percent,” the party said.
“In the last three months under an inept and poorly coordinated APC-led government, our nation’s economy, which before now, held the record as the largest in Africa and one of the fastest growing in the world, suddenly plummeted as officially evidenced in the lull in the capital and money market sectors which have lost billions of naira; spiral rate of inflation, and stagnation in domestic and foreign direct investments, with investors scared away due to the uncertainty arising from lack of economic direction and apparent confusion in the polity.
President Buhari will be 100 days in office by September 5. How would you rate his performance?
“This is in addition to the halt in infrastructure development projects in most parts of the country with associated massive job loss, closure of auxiliary small scale businesses, low purchasing power of citizens, among other negatives that have bedeviled the economy since the coming of this government, despite the much APC celebrated promissory notes from the President’s diplomatic shuttles, especially his recent visit to the United States.
“Nigerians would recall that we recently raised alarm on the negative consequences of the recent foreign exchange transaction restrictions, wherein this government is making it impossible for honest Nigerians to engage in free trade and regulate their personal activities as guaranteed by the constitution.
“We also warned about the consequences of foisting a communist economic regime with bans and clampdowns on free trade and the freedom of Nigerians to freely open and operate domiciliary accounts as provided by the Foreign Exchange Monitoring And Miscellaneous Provisions Act, otherwise known as Decree No. 17 of 1995 and wondered whether the nation was not heading back to the era of import duty licenses and regulation of commodity prices.
“Only recently, Fitch Rating, which, under the previous administration, affirmed Nigeria’s long-term foreign and local currency IDRs as well as senior unsecured bond and Short-term foreign currency IDR ratings respectively at ‘BB”s, had now alerted that Nigerian banks and other businesses in the sector would be adversely affected by the economic slowdown occasioned by the incompetence of the President Buhari-led APC government.
“This is more so as the absence of ministers have left the coordination of important government policies in ministries, departments and agencies in tatters, while creating loopholes for overzealous persons claiming closeness to the President to invade the system for inflated concessions, allocations, jobs and other financial sleazes, including misleading the President for approvals outside his limits.
“We invite Nigerians to note that whereas the Presidency has gone ahead to unilaterally deplete the funds inherited in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) and other government savings, as well as reports of engaging in discussions with the World Bank for loans without recourse to appropriate statutory arms of government, no corresponding improvement has been witnessed in the economy. Indeed, we are worried that the damage already done in the last 90 days may linger with us for years to come.
“Nigerians are no longer in doubt that they have been scammed with long list of empty promises which the APC government has no intentions or capacity to fulfill. The free meals for school children, allowances for discharged Corps Members, N5,000 monthly allowance for indigent Nigerians, free houses, bringing the dollar to the same value as the naira and other bogus promises for which they were voted into power, have become streams of mirage.
Instead, what we continue to witness is the outworn excuse of clearing the so-called Augean Stable, loud propaganda and artful move to appropriate the achievements made by the PDP-led administration; such as the effort in ending polio, the improvement in power supply, the reopening of the refineries, among others which are a dividend from numerous investments by the previous administrations.
“Finally, we state categorically that Nigerians are becoming tired and weary of the diversions and propaganda of creating imaginary achievements, dramatization of routine appointments, offering mundane excuses for crass incompetence and orchestrating a selective and witch-hunt of anti-corruption crusade.”

18 PLACES GUARANTEED TO MAKE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH GLASGOW -- wow247

A wee bit in love with Glasgow? You soon will be.
Edinburgh may get the attention from tourists visiting this fair country of ours, but we’re here to set the record straight and show off the lesser-visited city’s best sides.

From Gothic spires to a Scotch pie heaven, the city’s answer to the Sistine Chapel to tea off the beaten track – here are some stunning pictures of the places guaranteed to make you fall in love with Glasgow.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

1. Glasgow University
Not a fan of Gothic architecture? Then exit quietly via Central Station, if you please – some of us came here to learn. Glasgow University is the fourth oldest uni in the English-speaking world, and it still ranks rather high on worldwide academic tables. And it looks like Hogwarts, so there’s that. Whether you’re in search of an education or just visiting for the day, we defy you not to fall in love with the cloisters, the old-world vibe of University Avenue and, of course, that towering spire.

2. Queen’s Park hill

Flickr/Mark O’Rourke
It’s a lesser known place – but find it, and you’ll be penning love poems to the dear, green place before you know it. There are few scenic spots which offer an all-encompassing view of Glasgow, but the Queen’s Park flagpole is a rare find. Head southside and prepare to be WOWed (sorry).

3. Springburn Winter Gardens

Have a peek now – it might not look like this for much longer. Once Springburn Park’s jewel in the crown, the Winter Gardens has been crumbling for years now. There areplans afoot to restore it to glory – but there’s also something to be said for the current ruin. Urban explorers will love peeking over the fence and through those curving windows – and while we couldn’t possibly condone it, some even venture inside. If this is how we feel about the shell, just imagine what any attempt at restoration will do to us.

4. The Templeton Building and West Brewery

It’s a beauty all right – so it’s hard to believe that it was once a carpet factory. Talk about setting your stall out for all to see – the grandeur of the Templeton building is a top lesson in advertising. And what do we use it for nowadays? What else but beer – foamy, delicious beer. It’s home to the West Brewery, providing Glasgow punters with the beer garden to end all beer gardens. We win.

5. Ashton Lane

You cannot resist the call of the fairy lights. And even if you can, the booze, the top-notch grub, beer garden and boutique cinema will get you. The lure of the lanes of the west end is well-documented, but Ashton Lane shines that little bit brighter – perhaps, admittedly, because of the alcohol. This place is date night central – if you’re not too busy falling in love with our pretty city, that is.

6. The Barras Market

Flickr/Greg Neate
This historic market is Glasgow, in a nutshell; socks ‘two for a poun!’ sold on one side of the street and super-hip clothes by up-and-coming fashion designers on the other side. Head there on a weekend and you’re in for a treat – and perhaps a bag of hot, sugary doughnuts (just try and resist that smell). This one’s less about the sights and scenes, more about the Glesga patter – but you’ll love it, if you’ve any taste at all.

7. The Barrowland Ballroom

Need we say more? We’ve already covered why the Barrowlands is the best live music venue in Glasgow. Your mum probably went there. Your granny definitely attended the ballroom. And whether your memories are attached to a gentle waltz or a full-on mosh under those famous ceiling stars, just one look at the neon glow is enough to warm a big Glaswegian heart. Visitors, you need to experience the Barras atmosphere at least once.

8. House for an Art Lover

If the architectural designs of Charles Rennie Mackintosh sum up Glasgow then theHouse for an Art Lover has to be the city’s calling card. Surrounded by beautiful parkland and boasting stunning interiors alternating light and dark, you really can’t argue with the CRM effect on the city. Have a gander and you’ll be buying a knock-off high-backed chair before you know it.

9. Kelvingrove Bandstand

Remember when this place was an empty shell? Neither can we – it’s become so engrained in the wonder that is Kelvingrove Park, and what passes for summer in Glasgow. Whether it’s open air gigging or a big community do, it’s hard to imagine west end life without that sweeping amphitheatre, those colourful lights and the sheer delight that we can do outdoor events after all (rain? pah!) Bandstand, never go away again.

10. Oran Mor

The wedding venue of dreams for many a Glasgow bride and groom, this west end church turned bar, restaurant and nightclub boasts more than a pretty exterior (although, how many pubs do you know with a spire?). Head inside and you’ll find Glasgow’s answer to the Sistine Chapel, painted by the city’s own Alasdair Gray. Oran Mor‘s murals will mesmerise you for hours – and with plenty of good food and wine to keep you going.

11. The Duke of Wellington statue

Wellingtons' statue in Glasgow with the traffic cone hat as usual

Okay, so we’ve slipped this one in with a caveat. On the one hand, anyone of a Glaswegian persuasion will fine a tear in their eye at the sight of this fine gentleman. On the other, people from outside the city don’t really *get* the Duke and his now-famous cone-heided status. Still, it’s a fine example of the Glasgow sense of humour – we know what we’re on about, at least.

12. The Hidden Lane Tearoom

‘A tearoom?’ you scoff, wondering why where the next tourist hotspot is. Well, it’s not just any tearoom – it’s a hidden tearoom. Glasgow has as much vintage charm and hipster cool these days as it does a reputation for being a hard-living city. The Hidden Lane brings it all together, matching doilies and teapots your granny would have been proud of with one of the best afternoon tea spreads you’ll find in the city. Oh, and you can bring your own booze too – so perhaps that hard-drinking thing stands, after all.
13. The Necropolis

Flickr/Tim Kirman
Ever hear of a romantic stroll through the graveyard? No? Then you’ve clearly never visited Glasgow’s City of the Dead. Cross the Bridge of Sighs and tackle the winding hill to the top to this cemetery and you’ll wonder where the rest of the city went. Peaceful, historic and uniquely pretty – trust us, you’ll be dying to go back (sorry again).

14. The Horseshoe Bar

The Horseshoe is one of our favourite traditional Glasgow pubs. A well kent secret among city folk from all walks of life, the Victorian bar caters to karaoke fans, good old fashioned boozer enthusiasts and…well, the skint, thanks to a three courses for under a fiver lunchtime deal. It’s not breathtakingly beautiful but it’s very Glasgow – embrace it with a plate of signature pie and beans and you’ll be one with the city in no time.

15. Govanhill Baths

There are two reasons to fall in love with Govanhill Baths and, by extension, the fair city of Glasgow. The first is that beautiful Edwardian swimming pool building, all ornate tiles and faded bunting. The second is the history of the place, from community pool to community project, as the Baths were the subject of the longest continuous occupation in British history. Nowadays you’ll find plays, fashion shows and even weddings taking place there, all in the hope of restoring it to former glory. But whether it’s wet or dry, it’s hard not to fall for its echo-y charms.

16. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

A picture conveys a thousand words here – who knew that Glasgow could boast such splendour, such grandiose surrounds, and with free entry too? Add in a masterpiece like Dali’s ‘Christ of St John of the Cross’ and a stuffed elephant and it’s a party atKelvingrove. A very educational, and extremely beautiful party.

17. Royal Exchange Square

Those lights are up all year round – no Christmas only deals for this city, no sir. Another moonlit lovers walk hotspot, this square puts Glasgow’s architecture front and centre, with the added bonus of twinkly lights. Art Gallery? Check. Top bars and restaurants? Check and check. Have a seat, stranger – it’s time to watch lovely Glasgow go by.

18. The River Clyde

Whether you’re in Dalmarnock or sunny Govan, there’s always time to stop and have a wee gander doon the waater. It’s hard not to be impressed by the Clyde, whether you’re looking at the city that once was (those towering shipyard cranes) or the city Glasgow is trying hard to be (hello the Hydro spaceship). And any Glaswegian worth their salt will tell you that crossing the Kingston Bridge (or the squinty one, for that matter) and gazing up river will bring a lump to your throat every time.

Sentimental? Us? You want a doing?
