Sport: All Africa Games: Super Falcons beat Tanzania, qualify for semi final

Falcons

The Nigerian national women’s team, the Super Falcons, are one step closer to wining the gold medal in the women’s football event at the ongoing All Africa Games in Congo.

The Falcons are now through to the semi finals following their 3-0 bashing of Tanzania on Wednesday.

For some, the display by the Nigerian Ladies who are sadly going to miss the Olympic Games somewhat gives credence to the saying that ‘what a man can do, a woman can do better’.

While the Nigeria female team ripped their Tanzanian counterparts apart, the men’s team; the Super Eagles barley escaped defeat in Dar Es Salam over the weekend.

Going into Wednesday’s game, the Falcons had already registered a statement of intent that they want the All Africa Games women’s football gold medal as they fired four goals past hosts Congo in their opening game.

Although Tanzania were a bit fortunate to concede less goals compared to Congo, the East Africans were no match for the Falcons who were once more inspired by France-based striker, Desire Oparanozie, who scored a first half brace in Wednesday’s Group A tie.

With the victory, the Falcons are top in Group A with six points.

Although Ivory Coast have also garnered same points, they are behind due to their inferior goals difference compared to Nigeria.

The two countries will, however, face off in one of the final group games on Saturday while Tanzania and Congo will confront each other in the other group tie which is more or less a formality game.‎
