A young girl who was found dead on a beach has been identified after an investigating spanning three months.
‘Baby Doe’, as she became known, was found dead on a Boston beach in June – sparking a huge campaign to identify her and what caused her death.
Her tiny body was found in a rubbish bag by a woman walking a dog – and a composite picture of her face was shared more than 615,000 times as Massachusetts State Police attempted to piece together the circumstances of the child’s tragic demise.
Now, she has been officially named as Bella Bond, and her mother’s boyfriend is facing murder charges in connection with her death.

Now, she has been officially named as Bella Bond, and her mother’s boyfriend is facing murder charges in connection with her death.

Robert DeLeo, Massachusetts’ speaker of the House, said: ‘It appears as though it was a situation of the boyfriend who was involved and apparently, I think, mother and boyfriend sort of blaming each other in terms of who harmed the child.’
The breakthrough in the case came when police conducted a search of a Boston apartment on Thursday – after receiving a tip off.
Officials from the state’s child protection agency revealed they had also been in contact with Bella on two previous occasions in 2012 and 2013 as ‘support for neglect.’
It was also revealed that the Department of Children and Families terminated the parental rights of Bella’s mother for two of her older children between 2001 and 2006.
One of the older children was later adopted by her maternal grandmother, and the other adopted by a non-relative.
Rhonda Mann, a spokeswoman for the Executive Office of Health and Human Services, said: ‘Now that we know her name, the story is no less tragic. DCF has not had an open case with this family for over two years, but did have brief involvement with Baby Bella as an infant.’
