Arsene Wenger has spoken to the press ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Arsenal take on West Ham on Sunday in their opening fixture and the Emirates gaffer has offered his views on a range of topics, including the Gunners title challenge, the fitness of Alexis Sanchez and Jack Wilshere and the links with Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema.
Here’s what he had to say:
On Arsenal’s title challenge:
‘Our ambition is to win the Premier League. We have to set our targets high if we are to make progress from last season.
‘We are ready to fight for the championship – preparations could not have gone better for us.
‘We enjoy [pressure of being talked of as title winners]. Before, no one talked about us like that. We’re past that period.’

‘[Wilshere’s injury] is bad luck and purely accidental. He’s down but he’s coping with it.
‘There is minimal damage apart from the bone damage – there is no damage at all apart from that. It was a collision in training and it was all completely accidental.’
Wenger also discussed new signings and rumours surrounding Karim Benzema:
‘I’m very happy with the squad I have. We look to strengthen… But think it’s enough to win title if we develop, don’t stand still.
‘The media spoke about this, I never came out on Karim Benzema. I’ve never spoken on Benzema.
