‘What can I do to cure my gay son?’ A mum asked the internet

...Internet responds accordingly

A devout Catholic mother turned to the World Wide Web to keep her homosexual son ‘on the right path’.

And, the web was pretty united in its response.

Posting on Reddit, the parent asked: ‘What else can I do to make sure my son with SSA (same sex attractions) remains on the right path?

‘How can I stop being afraid for him?’

The post also reveals that her son (of high school age) has been pulled from the basketball team because ‘the locker room would just be an unnecessary temptation’.
Users were pretty horrified by the post (Picture: Reddit)

He’s also been forbidden from dating and warned that should he ‘not live up to God’s standards for sexuality’ he will not be financially supported by his parents through college.

The post – which was posted in a religious thread seven days ago and then shared again yesterday in the in an atheist section – so unbelievably anti-gay that some Redditors believe it was written by a troll.

Other users delivered some serious real talk to the offensive question.

The top commenter ranted: ‘Regardless of your view on homosexuality, what you are doing to your son is abusive. You are teaching him that he’s inherently bad. If your priest has signed off on this, he needs better counsel – preferably from a legitimate, licensed mental health professional. Not for being gay, but for having parents who decided to treat him like a dangerous criminal instead of a vulnerable child.’

Another added: ‘How about not adhering to an assbackwards mythology that turns gay kids depressed, lonely, confused and instead accept your own f***ing child for what he is and let him pursue safe and meaningful relationships.’
