PHOTO of the day: 'N1000(£2.50) for the needy' - Governor Ikpeazu style

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu  of Abia state giving an old woman N1000 (£2.50)

This photo of a state Governor in the south east of Nigeria has gone viral on the internet. Gov. Okezie of Abia state was seen in this undated photo giving alms to an old woman. The identity of the woman or the location of this gesture couldn't be immediately ascertained, but tongues have been waging on why the alm from the Governor was that small.

Many commentators expressed their displeasure over the lack of any welfare package for the aged and the vulnerables in his state; which they believe is the primary cause of the old woman begging to survive. In their opinion, they suggest the Governor make proper arrangement for the woman to start a small trade and feed herself better; improve the welfare package for the children and the aged; rather than the N1000 (£2.50) that would only take care of her momentary needs.

Meanwhile, some other contributors praised the governor for finding it humanly and out of respect for the aged, stopped to acknowledge the woman. Giving alm is a personal and voluntary thing - it is between you and your conscience to choose who give your personal money or property to.

What is your thought on this gesture of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu?
