The massive rally which took place at the Samson Siasia Stadium today, November 28, was geared towards setting things in motion for the party to clinch the Bayelsa governorship election slated for Saturday, December 5.
According to Leadership, those expected to grace the massive rally in company of Goodluck Jonathan are: the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, members of the party’s National Working committee, Board of Trustees, former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha and PDP members of the National Assembly among others.
The two main contenders in the Bayelsa poll are Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The political climate in Bayelsa has been tensed following accusations and counter accusations from both the Sylva/ Igiri cam¬paign organisation (SICO) of the APC and the Bay¬elsa Restoration Campaign Organisation (BYRCO) of the PDP over alleged harbouring of suspected thugs in Bayelsa Government House and plot to rig the December 5th governorship elections.
The APC recently accused the PDP of inducing rural dwellers with money in exchange for their Permanent Voter’s Cards. The PDP has however dismissed the accusations as baseless.
