The bodies of 30-year-old Oksana Bobrovskaya and husband Nikita, who used to be in the military special services, were reportedly found semi-naked in the back seat.
But police have discounted the theory that the couple had been having sex shortly before the blast, according to Russian media.
There have been a number of suggestions about why the Toyota RAV-4 blew up, including that Nikita may have used a grenade or TNT after allegedly accusing his wife of cheating with a wealthy businessman.
It was also claimed the couple's relationship had become strained because he was out of work, leaving the Novosibirsk regional legislative deputy as the sole breadwinner.
But other accounts said Nikita could have been the sole intended victim and explosives may have been planted inside or underneath the vehicle.
Neighbours said when the bodies were removed, both the deputy and her husband were 'naked below the belt', according to The Siberian Times.
The explosion near her workplace on Thursday night badly disfigured the couple's faces but not their lower bodies, it added.
Eyewitness Evgenia Romanova said: "First there was an explosion. The security alarms on neighbouring cars started to scream, and I joked to my husband that the war with Turkey must have begun.
"And then I looked out of the window and saw this all carnage. My husband went down to the street, and I looked through the window. It was horrific something you would not wish anyone to see. No heads, glass covered in blood... a nightmare."
An anonymous witness said: "I heard a clap, but not very loud. Like a shot. I thought may be something had fallen from the apartment block roof onto a car, or cars had collided. There were no screams.
"Residents gazed through their windows, I went to see. I saw that the two were in the back seat. The girl's face was almost not visible, there was almost no head. There was no-one on the front seat."
