Set to reappear with Shane Ritchie in the soap seven months after they left for Spain, the actress who plays Kat is being filmed from the waist up to avoid revealing her leg cast
EastEnders star Jessie Wallace has broken her leg after taking a tumble while out walking her beagle Woody.
The actress, whose leg is now in a cast following surgery, could be forced to miss scenes in the BBC soap.
But so far she has refused to let her injury get in the way of filming and is continuing with her busy schedule.
Jessie, 44, who plays Kat Moon, is due to be involved in some big storylines involving her on-screen husband Alfie (Shane Richie).
She is being filmed from the waist up to avoid revealing her leg cast, but sources say producers have lined up a body double in case they need to do a full-length shot.
According to pals, Jessie was walking her dog near her Hertfordshire home when she fell over. An insider said: “She had to have an operation to correct the break.”
An EastEnders source added: “Jessie has been a real trouper. She hasn’t complained and she has come in and done everything that has been required of her. Luckily it has meant that none of the story has been changed at all – you just won’t see Kat doing laps around Albert Square.”
This week it was revealed that Kat’s dad Charlie Slater, played by Derek Martin, 82, will be killed off after 15 years in the soap.
Scenes are currently being filmed showing the aftermath of the cabbie’s death. And executives also reveal they have a real “tearjerker” of a storyline involving Kat planned for January.

Shane, 51, and Jessie are making a temporary return to EastEnders after a break. They were last seen on screen in May when Kat and Alfie bowed out of Walford for a new life in Spain.

The couple will be back on screen over the Christmas period. Their reappearance will pave the way for an upcoming six-part spin-off show which will see the Moons head to Ireland.
An EastEnders spokesman added: “Jessie, like a true professional, has managed to film everything.”
