A cyclist gave Boris Johnson the finger as he cycled past on Vauxhall Bridge

Maybe he was horrified to find out you need to earn £100,000 to buy a home in London now.

Perhaps he thought BoJo wasn’t doing enough to make London safe for cyclists. Or maybe he just didn’t like his hair.

Either way, this man was not pleased to see London mayor Boris Johnson riding towards him over Vauxhall Bridge for a photoshoot opening the new cycle superhighway separating cars and bikes.

He flipped him the bird while pedalling towards him while journalists and photographers from across the city looked on.

But it looks like Boris thought that chap was just giving him a friendly wave, as he put his own hand up to greet the man.

It wasn’t just this Lycra warrior who had something to get off his chest. Boris had to face down verbal attacks from three cyclists using the new highway, which stretches across Vauxhall Bridge from Oval to Pimlico.

At its busiest, more than 750 cyclists are using the dedicated segregated lane which opened three weeks ago.

Mr Johnson said it was ‘fantastic’ to see it get so much use, and said the overall reaction has been very positive.

Boris said: ‘The people I met on the cycleway seemed to love it. This is probably, in a hotly contested field, one of the most difficult things we have had to do. It has caused an awful lot of aggro, particularly with senior colleagues in parliament who like to travel around in cars.’
