Waitress pays restaurant bill for cancer patient and leaves a heartwarming note

Here’s your ‘well, that’s nice’ news of the day.

Long-term couple Rick and Annette Lewallen decided to treat themselves to dinner out last week, heading to Brother’s Pizzeria in Hamilton New Jersey. They don’t often go out to restaurants as they like to keep things modest, especially with all the bills they’re facing due to Rick’s treatment for brain cancer.

They ordered a slice of pizza and a salad, and had a generally lovely time. But their meal out became something a little more special when the bill arrived.

They found that the 17-year-old waitress, Daniela Bossi, had used her tips to cover the cost of their meal, leaving a heartfelt note instead of the amount due.

It read: ‘For putting up the biggest fight… this one is on me.’

Bossi had only been working at the restaurant for two months, and explained to NJ.com that on the day Rick and Annette came into the restaurant, she’d already made enough tips to cover their meal.

She’s known the couple for years and says that she decided to treat them ‘because their family has always been there for [her] little sister.’

‘It was something so small,’ Bossi said. ‘I didn’t think it was any big deal.’

But Annette and Rick were touched and posted about the gesture on Facebook, writing that they are “overwhelmed” by Daniela’s kindness.

‘Proof that goodness exists in the world,’ wrote Annette. ‘Go Daniela, you set such a great example for the youth of today and for people in general.

‘The world is a better place because of people like you.’
