Mr Segun Olulade, the chairman of Lagos State House of Assembly committee on health, who made this disclosure on the floor of the House on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, as part of activities to commemorate this year’s World AIDS’ Day, informed that the figure was gotten from the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA)

The All Progressives Congress (APC) reps member, has therefore urged the House to support the people living with AIDS as all efforts need to be pulled together to fight the disease.

He said: “There is the need to show support to those living with AIDS; today gives us the opportunity to identify with the people living with the disease.

“It is a serious issue that cannot be ignored or treated with levity.”

Olulade also called on the state government and other agencies to support the enlightenment programmes aimed at stemming the spread of the disease.

Speaking also on the issue, Sola Giwa representing Lagos Island I at the House, said: “The issue of the deadly disease is germane. HIV virus requires all hands on deck to eradicate its spread.

“I urge residents of the state to know that HIV /AIDS is real, there is no cure for it, and everyone should protect themselves.”
