A popular medical student at the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Senegal, has surfaced within the ranks of the Islamic State fighters.

The student had gone missing and his parents and friends have been worried for several weeks now over his whereabouts.

But he broke the silence on Sunday by posting his combat uniform bearing his name and a kalashnikov gun on Facebook page.

Your father

Instantly, many of his friends and relatives responded to the Facebook posting by appealing to him to rescind his decision.

“Since you left us, many of us have been worried including your father who is really in distress,” a local newspaper reported one of his friends as having written.

Another one wrote: “We cannot believe what we see on Facebook, but all we can say is to urge you to be reasonable as you have always been and try to reunite with us as soon as possible.”

However, the medical student retorted: “Tell my father that I’m in good hands and doing good business.”

A pious Muslim
“I won’t come back even if a special jet is sent purposely to fly me back!”

The medical student’s friends have described him as a pious Muslim belonging to the Ibadou fraternity that wears long beards and do not mingle with women.

He has joined the list of nearly a dozen well-known Senegalese who have been identified with terrorist groups.

About half a dozen others, including Imams (Muslim clerics) and their wives, were being held in custody in Senegal in connection with terrorism charges.
