ABOUT 10,000 men and officers of the Nigeria Police, along with other security agencies are already getting set to provide adequate security during the burial activities of the late matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 2, (Lagos and Ogun), Bala Hassan, disclosed this to Daily Sun in an exclusive interview at the weekend in Awolowo’s house, Ikenne, Ogun State.

HID died in September and will be buried on Wednesday, November 25, her centenary birthday.

The AIG, who spoke through his Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the zone, CSP Adebowale Lawal, added that police dogs, horses, police anti-bomb squad and anti-bomb detectors are among other security facilities that would be deployed on that day.

Other security agencies working in concert with the police include men of the Nigeria Army, State Security Service (SSS), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

“We are looking at about 10,000 security personnel; we will have police in mufti, Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and air surveillance with helicopters,” he added.

The security operatives, he said are being drawn from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states where the burial activities would be carried out, and from other commands across the country.

“There is synergy between security agencies in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo where all the burial activities would be carried out.

“The Road Safety, the LASTMA in Lagos and TRACE in Ogun have all been told to ensure there is free flow of traffic in all the roads leading to the venues of the event within the three states where the activities would be carried out,” Lawal added.

All the potholes on the roads to the Apapa home of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in Lagos State, Lawal said were already being patched, adding that the AIG has inspected the roads and expressed optimism that all will be well.
