The UK’s top man caves have been unveiled and we want to live in all of them

Since staying in was declared the new going out some time back in the mists of time (aka the mid-noughties), the men of Britain have been hunkering down in attics and basements across the land.

Welcome to the modern obsession of the affluent middle classes: the man cave.

In a bid to ensure they need never see the light of day on a weekend ever again, guys (and gals) have been spending a fortune installing custom-made bars, flat screen tellies and pinball machines in their spare rooms.

And now there’s even a competition to find the sexiest man cave/games room in the UK.

The winner of the UK Games Room of the Year 2015 will need to show creativity, uniqueness and attention to detail (hammock? Check. Mini-fridge that looks like a Dalek? Standard).

Over 1,000 people entered the competition from around the country, which will be voted on by the public.

There are 10 regional champions, along with five additional wildcards, who are all competing for the £3,000 prize.

Ben Williamson from Essex, for example, stripped out his double garage and created a barn-style man cave with a pool table, dartboard and a bar made out of wooden pallets.

Wildcard entrant Chris Embling’s den is a retreat, built in memory of his son who died suddenly. The room’s covered in footy shirts and acts as a fundraising hub for Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Adam Wells from Crawley crammed his man cave with pinball machines and LED lighting.

This arcade, bar & cinema room lies in Les Potts’ basement and was fuels his love of video games – discovered when he came across his first Space Invaders game. He never looked back.

Simon Randall spent a staggering 15 years creating his two-storey man cave. Mrs Randall couldn’t be contacted for comment.

The only (wo)man cave on the list belongs to Kate from Wales. And, she’s gone all boutique hotel with exposed brick and a fully stocked bar.

You can view all the finalists – you have until October 16 to vote on your favourite.

We wonder what they’ll spend that £3,000 prize-pot on?
