Rejoinder: Okah not dead – Nigeria Prison service

Charles Okah

By Jude Opara, Abuja

ABUJA – The Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) has denied the rumour making the rounds that the suspected mastermind of the October 1st Independence Day celebration bombing, Charles Okah has died in prison.

A statement issued by the Service spokesman, DCP Enobore Francis, yesterday in Abuja, said Okah was presently alive in the prison and hale and hearty. Okah was said to have attempted suicide at the resumed hearing on the case on Tuesday.

“I wish to react to the numerous calls from media correspondents seeking clarifications into the rumoured death of Mr. Charles Okah in prison custody and state that the information is not true.

“Okah is hale and hearty and going about his normal daily routine in safe custody. The rumour has no iota of truth and therefore should be disregarded” the statement added.

Recall that Henry Okah, the elder brother of Charles is already serving a jail term in a South African prison in connection with the same offence.
