Babysitter who sexually abused boy, 11, claims she fell in love after his dad set them up

A babysitter who sexually abused a young boy says that she was in love with him and his father had set them up.

Jade Hatt, 21, was yesterday spared jail for sexual activity with a child sparking outrage at what’s been perceived to be a lenient sentence.

They started having intercourse, but the boy – who was only 11 – realised what they were doing was wrong so he stopped Hatt.
Hatt’s sentence has been criticised by a children’s charity

She claimed that she thought he was 16 or 17 and cooked meals for him.

Incredibly, the boy’s father told the court that his son was ‘fully up for it’ and saw it as a ‘notch on his belt’.

Hatt said: ‘[The boy] said he liked me in that way. I fall in love too quick and get attached to people quickly.

‘What made me sleep with him – I’m not quite sure.

Outrage at sentence

Jade Hatt’s sentence has been widely criticised.

Children’s charity NSPCC said the sentence ‘sends out the wrong message and confirms a common view in society that the abuse of a young boy by a woman is somehow less serious than the abuse of a girl by a man’.

A spokesperson said: ‘It beggars belief that Tim Mousley QC could say that the 11 year old victim’s maturity and the abuser’s immaturity “narrowed the age gap” and was reason to step outside the sentencing guidelines and sends a deeply worrying signal.

‘The victim’s voice appears to have been ignored as despite his own father claiming that his son was “fully up for the experience” the boy himself said he had not enjoyed it and knew it was wrong.

‘The effects of sexual abuse can be long lasting and it’s essential that this boy is offered the necessary support.’

Hatt received a six months suspended prison sentence

‘He told me he was older and I believed that. I thought he was 16 or 17 because he is taller and acts older.

‘When I stopped I went to the toilet and I was crying and shaking thinking “what have I just done?”.’

Hatt received a six month suspended prison sentence at Swindon Crown Court after admitting sexual activity with a child and is now on the Sex Offenders Register.

She denies accusations heard in court that she had also slept with the boy’s father.
