The Met Office will no longer be providing weather forecasts for the BBC (Picture: BBC)
The Met Office has been forecasting the weather for the BBC for nearly a century.
But it’s now been announced that its £32.5 million-a-year contract will end next year, with a foreign firm likely to take its place – and not everyone’s happy.
The BBC says it is legally required to listen to bids from outside companies to secure the best value for licence fee payers.

What do you think to the BBC dropping the Met Office
Great! They never get it right
Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad
The Met Office branded the news ‘disappointing’, and said: ‘We are also supporting our popular team of presenters to ensure clarity on their future.’
A BBC spokesman said: ‘Our graphics are already supplied by another provider and our long standing relationship with the Met Office will continue as we intend to still broadcast their severe weather warnings.’
But some people have seen the funny side…
