BREAKING NEWS: U.S. Marines 'take down' armed gunman onboard a high-speed train between Amsterdam and Paris

A gunman opened fire on board a high speed train in northern France
Eyewitnesses said three U.S. Marines on the train disarmed the gunman
The man was armed with a deadly a Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle
Three people were wounded and the gunman is currently in police custody

A crazed gunman, who opened fire with an assault rifle onboard a high-speed train was detained by a group of US Marines who were travelling on the service.

The man is understood to have been overheard loading the Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle in the toilet by the un-armed Marines.

Three people were injured when the man opened fire, but he was soon forced to the ground and detained.

The suspected gunman was held on the platform of the station in Arras in France for police to arrive

The man was arrested by police near the town of Arras in northern France.

Train company Thalys confirmed the incident happened. A spokesman said: 'The situation is under control, the travellers are safe. The train stopped and the emergency services are on site.'

No one at the SNCF French railways was immediately available to comment on the report.

A report on Twitter said that three US Marines detained the gunman until emergency services arrived.

The incident happened at approximately 6pm local time.
