Local police identified the victims during a press conference Wednesday morning as Alison Parker and Adam Ward.
A WDBJ7 representative told BuzzFeed News that Parker, who had just turned 24, was dating Chris Hurst, the station’s 6 o’clock news anchor. Ward, 27, had been engaged to a woman named Melissa Ott.
We didn't share this publicly, but @AParkerWDBJ7 and I were very much in love. We just moved in together. I am numb.
WDBJ7 General Manager and Vice President Jeff Marks said on air that Parker started as an intern at WDBJ “three or four years ago,” took another job in the south, and then rejoined the local news station about a year ago.
The representative added that state police are currently conducting an investigation into their deaths.
