Sport: Chelsea lost £45m for Champion's League exit

Chelsea’s finances will be hit after their Champions League exit

Chelsea stand to lose around £45million after their Champions League exit to the hands of Paris Saint-Germain last night.

With Guus Hiddink’s side struggling in the league, the Blues needed to win this season’s competition to make next season’s tournament.

Goals from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adrien Rabiot gave PSG a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge last night and a 4-2 aggregate win in the tie.

The financial benefits of playing in Europe’s elite competition are huge and reaching the latter stages of the tournament can bring riches up to around £100m.

The Blues will be out of the competition for at least one season and, when matchday income and broadcast revenues are factored in, the club stands to lose around £45m next term alone.
