This is Chris Mintz and he’s being hailed as something of a hero.

The 30-year-old is believed to have ‘charged’ the suspected Oregon shooter, named as Chris Harper Mercer.

At least 10 people were gunned down in the Umpqua Community College shooting, in Roseburg.

Mintz was rushed to hospital, apparently taking seven bullets as he tried to save his classmates.

According to his cousin and former Army comrade, Derek Bourgeois, Mintz ‘went after the shooter’.

‘There was no way he was going to stand around and watch something horrific happen,’ he told the Mail Online.

Bourgeois added that while Mintz had been shot several times, thankfully no vital organs had been injured.

Despite breaking both of his legs, Mintz – who spent a decade in the Army and recently enrolled at college – is expected to make a full recovery following surgery.

At least 10 people were killed in the Oregon shooting – which is the 45thschool shooting in the US this year.

Alleged gunman Chris Harper Mercer is said to have asked his victims religion before opening fire.

The entire college was on lockdown and Mercer was fatally wounded in an exchange of gunfire with police.
