Google buys google.com back from guy who bought it for $12… and he gives all the money to charity

Remember Sanmay Ved?

He’s the guy who briefly thought that he’d managed to somehow become king of the internet after a website flaw allowed him to buy Google.comfor just $12.

But while the internet giant managed to quickly regain control of the domain and told Sanmay that he wouldn’t be getting any money from it, they soon changed their minds after he admitted that it would’ve been going to charity anyway.

Speaking to Business Insider, Sanmay said: ‘I don’t care about the money. It was never about the money. I also want to set an example that it’s people who want to find bugs and that it’s not always about the money.’

And while Sanmay is reluctant to divulge the exact amount he was given, he did reveal that it was ‘more than 10,000’ – which seems like a pretty impressive gesture.

He’s since donated the sum to an Indian foundation that brings education to impoverished areas, with Sanmay admitting that he is ‘a proponent for education.’

Speaking after his transaction was rumbled by Google, Sanmay said: ‘The domain actually got added to my cart as seen by the green check-box, and the domain appeared in my cart’

‘I was hoping I would get an error at sometime, saying transaction did not go through, but I was able to complete the purchase, and my credit card was actually charged!’
